Applicants from Chinese Partner Institutions

The Graduate School of Medical Science at 色多多视频 (KMU) is recruiting students from KMU's partner institutions in China (China Medical University, Tongji Medical College of HUST, China-Japan Friendship Hospital). Applicants must have a written recommendation from their respective institutions. A scholarship (100,000 JPY/month) will be provided to accepted applicants.

Important Notes

  • This application is for a four-year doctoral program in the Graduate School of Medical Science. Only those intend to enroll for four years and obtain a doctoral degree should apply for this program.
  • After passing the entrance exam, newly admitted international students will be given priority to live in the KMU International Student Dormitory

Scholarship 100,000 JPY/month

*Enrollment for a standard duration of the program (4 years)

  • The candidates must sign an attendance confirmation report every month at the Center for International Exchange (CIE) to receive the scholarship. The scholarship will not be granted without a signed report.
  • Travel and living expenses are not included.

Admission and Arrival Schedule

  1. KMU sends the recruitment information to the Chinese partner institutions (August)
  2. Applicants are recruited and selected by each institution
  3. Application documents are sent from the partner institutions to the CIE (late September)
  4. Deadline for application essay submission (October)
  5. Announcement of results (November)
  6. Admission procedures
  7. Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) application and issuance of CoE (December to January)
  8. Visa application at the Embassy or Consulate-General of Japan
  9. Entry into Japan aud enroll in the doctoral program of the graduate school

Visiting Research Fellows and Visiting Trainees

KMU accepts doctors and researchers from overseas for research collaborations and academic/technical training. Departments or centers at KMU planning to invite doctors or researchers should submit the application documents for a visiting research fellow or a visiting trainee to the CIE.
To invite a visiting research fellow with a scholarship, please refer to the Research Project (scholarship).

Positions at KMU

1) Visiting Research Fellow    Foreign researchers to join a research collaboration at KMU
2) Visiting Trainee    Foreign trainee to lean academic or research skills

Duration Maximum of 2 years

Our university accepts visiting research fellows and trainees to participate in research or training for more than 1 month but within 1 year. An extension of the period can be granted within the year.

Salary or Remuneration

KMU does not provide salaries or remunerations to visiting research fellows or visiting trainees. Travel and living expenses in Japan also should be self-funded.

Issuance of Certificate of Research/Training

Upon completion, a certificate will be issued as proof of your research or training at KMU.

Application and Arrival Schedule

  1. Preparation of required documents for a visiting research fellow or visiting trainee at the department or center. The following documents should be prepared and sent by the foreign researcher or trainee to the department or center.
    List of Documents
    Application form, copy of diploma from last school attended, official enrollment certification of present school or institution, recommendation letter from a supervisor, letter from financial guarantor, three reprints of publications, certificate of Japanese or English language ability, health certificate, ID photo (jpeg)
    (Attention to the Departments or Centers at KMU) Before contacting foreign researchers or trainees, please refer to the detailed information on how to prepare each required document.
  2. Submission of application (for a visiting research fellow or visiting trainee) and the documents received by the foreign researchers or trainees to the CIE.

    *If the foreign researcher or trainee needs to obtain a visa to enter Japan to engage in the activities at KMU, application documents should be submitted to the CIE 3 months prior to the day to enter Japan.

  3. Issuance of Acceptance Letter (after approval by the Committee of International Exchange and the President of KMU)
  4. Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) application and issuance of CoE (December to January)
  5. Visa application at the Embassy or Consulate-General of Japan
  6. Entry into Japan, begin research/training

Research Project with Chinese Partner Institutions (Scholarship)

KMU facilitates joint research projects with researchers under 35 years old from partner institutions in China (China Medical University, Tongji Medical College of HUST, China-Japan Friendship Hospital) with the aim of promoting international partnership and stimulating research at KMU.

A scholarship (100,000 JPY/month) will be granted to project researchers (visiting research fellows) accepted for joint research.

  • Excellent Japanese or English language proficiency and advanced research skills are required.
  • Project researchers should arrive in Japan within the academic fiscal year.
  • Project researchers will obtain a residence status of Cultural Activities and will not be allowed to receive a salary or remuneration while in Japan.
  • Travel and living expenses in Japan should be self-funded.

Application Procedures
(for doctors and researchers under 35 years old in Chinese partner institutions)

KMU will go through a selection process for project researchers recommended by our partner universities.
If you currently belong to one of our partner institutions or affiliated hospitals in China and wish to apply for joint research at KMU, please contact the section in charge of international exchange at your institution for more information.

Submission of Research Projects (for Departments or Centers at KMU)

The CIE calls for research projects every year in May. Submit the research projects to the CIE if you seek a researcher from Chinese partner institutions to join the project.

Research Project (Scholarship)

KMU accepts researchers from overseas with the aim of promoting research and contributing to the development of medicine and international cooperation. The CIE recruits 1 researcher from overseas (not including our Chinese partner institutions) in May every year. A scholarship of 100,000 JPY/month (1 year) will be granted to the visiting research fellow accepted for joint research at KMU.

Departments or centers at KMU that wish to invite a researcher from overseas for joint research should submit the application documents to the CIE.
