Orthopaedic Surgery

Outline

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery provides comprehensive care for a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders, including conditions such as spine and spinal cord disorders, joint diseases, traumatic injuries, peripheral nerve diseases, and surgical ailments affecting the hands and feet. Each year, the department performs approximately 1,000 surgeries.

Professor Emeritus KAWAHARA Norio and Associate Professor KAWAGUCHI Masahito specialize in spine and spinal cord conditions and have performed numerous surgeries for complex cases such as scoliosis and spinal cancer. Professor KANEUJI Ayumi, Professor ICHISEKI Toru, and Senior Assistant Professor TAKAHASHI Eiji specialize in hip joint disorders and have considerable experience in performing hip replacements, revision surgeries, and hip osteotomies for patients from both within and outside the Hokuriku area. Professor ICHISEKI also oversees treatments for shoulder joint disorders, and performs reverse shoulder joint prostheses as well as arthroscopic surgery. Senior Assistant Professor TACHI Yoshiyuki established an outpatient clinic for knee joint regenerative medicine (MFAT: Micro-Fragmented Adipose Tissue). Here, he performs regenerative medicine using autologous adipose-derived stem cells to treat knee osteoarthritis.

The department’s research endeavors focus on reconstruction of the spine, basic studies on osteonecrosis of the femoral head and artificial hip joints at the graduate school, and regeneration of bone, cartilage, and the spinal cord at the Regenerative Medicine Center.
