Breast and Endocrine Surgery

Outline

Breast cancer is the most prevalent malignancy among women in Japan. The department of breast and endocrine surgery was established in 2009, and the breast center started in 2016. There are currently several effective treatments for breast cancer involving surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy, and hormonal therapy. Therefore, surgeons must understand not only the surgical treatments but also have a multidisciplinary approach. Nevertheless, surgery is an integral part of the treatment of breast cancer. We have developed two types of breast surgery: (1) a novel oncoplastic technique for breast cancer localized in the lower pole of the breast, and (2) axillary reverse mapping with indocyanine fluorescence imaging.
