Ophthalmology

Outline

"Current members of the Department of Ophthalmology are as follows: 2 professors, 1 professor emeritus, 1 visiting professor, 1 associate professor (adjunct), 2 senior assistant professors, 8 assistant professors, 3 clinical fellows, and 12 orthoptists. All conduct clinical practice, education, and research. Teams of specialists treat patients and perform over 1,600 surgeries per year for cataracts, vitreoretinal diseases, glaucoma, nasolacrimal duct disorders, blepharoptosis, strabismus, and corneal and conjunctival diseases. In August 2019, a new operation room (Eye Center) with the latest surgical equipment was constructed next to the Ophthalmology Ward. We particularly specialize in treating cataracts, performing the highest level of refractive surgery and surgical correction (multifocal intraocular lens implantation) to treat presbyopia in Japan.
All members of the Department of Ophthalmology are actively engaged in conducting research on various topics. Research includes epidemiologic ophthalmology (research related to ultraviolet light, environmental temperature and ocular diseases), ophthalmological optics, clinical research of cataracts and intraocular lenses, basic research on cataracts (development of anti-cataract and secondary cataract drugs), studies on ocular infections and IgG4-related diseases, ocular pharmacology, and the development and evaluation of eye protection glasses."
