Pathology I

Outline
Pathological diagnosis is based on the principle that abnormalities in function are reflected in morphology, but the molecular mechanisms linking function, morphology, and dynamics have not yet been clarified. In our laboratory, we focus on the specific morphology and dynamics observed in diseases, and aim to clarify the behavior of cells in vivo by live imaging in order to establish the basis for new therapeutic methods. We have been analyzing each process of cancer invasion and metastasis separately. We are now focusing on the following 3 points: 1) Verifying the go-or-grow hypothesis of colon cancer cells at the invasive border by immunostaining surgical specimens. 2) Analyzing the role of cholesterol in the growth of cancer cells in the liver, the main metastatic site of colon cancer. 3) Establishment of in vitro muscle-layer culture to observe invasive cell dynamics.
