Outline
We are in charge of the subject of Life Science and special programs for first-year students.
In our research activities, the goal is to understand how galectins, a family of β-galactoside binding lectin, modulate animal development and the immune system. The molecular mechanisms of galectin action may be determined by the recognition of glycoproteins and/or protein-protein interaction that can transduce multi-signals in biological nature.
We aim to:
(1) Identify the role of galectins in development, especially placentation using human specimens, rat and mouse models.
(2) Reveal the function of galectins in immunity, especially anti-viral infection and autoimmune diseases using the murine disease model.
