Physiology I

Outline
Our core competence is to investigate properties of cortical neurons, including channel functions and synaptic plasticity, by using electrophysiological methods. We have so far elucidated novel modes of channel coupling that constitute negative or positive feedback regulations of neuronal excitability. Interestingly, some of these regulation mechanisms are reasonably related with the pathophysiology of major depression and Alzheimer’s disease. By relying on molecular biological methods as well, we started collecting evidence that could link neurophysiological and behavioral variables in the context of these neuropsychiatric disorders, so as to find out new vistas of yet unknown therapeutics.
